MusicTank Looks For Those With The Write Stuff

  • MusicTank Launches Innovative 8 Week Music Journalism Course
  • Programme Developed And Run By Former Sleazenation Dep. Ed Lulu Le Vay

Just as the internet has completely changed the recordings business, publishing and journalism have undergone a similar seismic shift, with free and easy to use applications like Wordpress allowing anyone to publish themselves.Whilst this democratisation of the press is in many ways a good thing, the rise of citizen journalism has also led to many bad habits creeping into the established mainstream media. From bedroom blogs through to free newspapers and beyond, the quality of writing has dropped dramatically with lazy habits, such as the cut 'n' pasting of press releases becoming common-place - just ask the red faces at the Independent who published details of the 'Wanky Balls' pre-cursor to the Big Chill.Aiming to stop the rot, the University of Westminster's music business network MusicTank has joined forces with Lulu Le Vay, former deputy editor of Sleazenation and freelance feature writer for the likes of The Face, i-D, Jockey Slut, Guardian Guide, The Independent on Sunday, and the Observer, to develop a course, 'Words Up', that will support a new breed of writer with the drive and talent to steer an anti-churnalism campaign.Designed by Le Vay and featuring guest speakers such as Joe Goddard from Hot Chip, Radio 1 DJ and Bestival promoter Rob da Bank and Mojo Reviews Editor Jenny Cameron, this unique course will look at the entire journalism process, and music journalism's place in a wider industry context.Spanning 8 weeks 'Words Up' will nurture a new wave of talent and equip them with not only a polished and enviable toolbox of skills - but also a 360-degree view of music journalism. From building up contacts, pitching stories and writing press releases, to conducting interviews and the dos and don'ts of reviews 'Words Up' will  provide an insight into just where a career in music journalism can ultimately take you.For more information and pricing details see the link below.www.musictank.co.uk
