App To The Future; MusicTank Reboots The Technology Debate

MusictankThe University of Westminster’s music business network MusicTank has revealed the first speakers to appear at their next think tank, ‘The Brave New World of Location-Based, App-Driven & Immersive Marketing’. The second of MusicTank’s Year Zero events takes a timely look at the positive ways the music industry can co-opt and employ new technologies and trends to benefit themselves.'Brave New World' seeks to reboot the debate that for too long has cast the music industry as a helpless victim to new technology, and instead encourage the business to look at new technologies as opportunities rather than threats and ensure the mistakes of the past are not repeated.Joining the panel to explain just why we should all hug a techie will be James Penycate, founder of Social Media consultancy Ooh Brilliant, Adrian Hon, founder and Chief Creative Officer at alternate reality game designers SixToStart and Stephen O'Reilly founder of self service mobile app platform Mobile Roadie.Experts in their own fields, we’ll hear how they have used these new technologies and social networks to further the causes of brands they work with.  How they keep up-to-date with latest developments and how we can make technologies that work for cars and vodka brands apply to labels and bands? What will ‘always on’ tablets and mobiles mean for entertainment companies?  How can augmented reality be used to promote a new music? Can we take advantage of new sites like Foursquare to promote our tours? MusicTank invites you to join them in finding out the answers to all these questions and more.- Notes for Editors -Event DetailsTitle:     Year Zero: The Brave New World of Location-Based, App-Driven & Immersive MarketingDate:        9th November 2010Time:        18:30 to 21:00Venue: The Basement, PRS for Music, Copyright House, 29-33 Berners Street, London, W1T 3ABTravel: Nearest Tube - Goodge St (Northern Line)PRS for Music is at Mortimer St end of Berners St.Cost: Standard – £35 / trade body members – £30 / members – £25Tickets must be purchased in advance from www.musictank.co.ukLINE UPPanel:James Penycate        Founder, Ooh BrilliantAdrian Hon            Founder and Chief Creative Officer, SixToStartStephen O'Reilly        Founder, Mobile RoadieChair: Keith Harris     Keith Harris Music Ltd / MusicTank Chairman / Director of Performer Affairs, PPLKeynote:             TBCIn a slight change to MusicTank’s normal format, following a keynote, we will hear case studies of technological innovation, some of which will be from sectors outside the music industry - e.g. location-based gaming.  Presented by leading-edge companies, it's intended to inform and inspire breakout groups which will follow, each to be led by one of these experts.  The results of these brainstorm round tables will be fed back to the room.It is hoped this may inspire fresh thinking and that those present may learn from other sectors that have successfully deployed cutting edge technologies to drive products and engage markets.  Q&A with the panel will follow a mid-evening break.ABOUT MUSICTANKMusicTank is the UK's music business network, an initiative of the University of Westminster, set up with the support of 14 UK music industry organisations.MusicTank aims to foster new collaborations and circulate innovative ideas, best practice and cutting-edge strategies to increase innovation and productivity across the business.  Regular think tanks bring hot topics into sharp focus and help pinpoint the opportunities created by disruptive technologies.MusicTank conferences deal with everything from record production to copyright review while occasional social evenings blend the entertaining recollections of music business virtuosos with the opportunity to develop valuable industry contacts.MusicTank aims to override traditional partitions by providing improved access to expert knowledge via musictank.co.uk, the leading music business web-site, offering free industry discussion on new business techniques alongside useful reports and comments from leading lights.
