  • Official Ticketing Agent WeGotTickets Sees Customers Donate Thousands To Oxfam

28th October, London:- This weekend marks the end of Oxjam, the month long festival put on across the nation by Oxfam supporters, with everything from large-scale festivals to sponsored busks, all whilst raising money for Oxfam to help fight poverty worldwide. Official ticketing agent, WeGotTickets, has been giving 50% of all booking fees for all Oxjam tickets sold and customer donations towards the charity, and is expected to reach £7,000 by the end of the campaign.

The Oxjam month included the Oxjam Takeover weekend on 22/23 October - a series of city-wide mini festivals, taking place in 31 locations across the UK, from Aberdeen to Bournemouth. This weekend alone saw over 3,000 musicians performing to more than 35,000 people, making it the biggest one yet.

Artists involved this year included Faithless, Zero 7, Diana Vickers, dan le sac vs. Scroobius Pip, Four Tet, Johnny Borrell of Razorlight and The Charlatans, all rolling out their support for the month-long activities and pledging support to the charity.

Contributing to that effort, WeGotTickets, Oxjam’s official ticketing partner, has been donating 50% of their booking fee on Oxjam tickets back to the charity throughout October. Additionally WeGotTickets customers have been able to make a donation to Oxjam when purchasing tickets for any event on sale.

Booking fee and fan donations from WeGotTickets' customers have already topped last year’s efforts and are on target to reach over £7,000 at final count with all Gift Aid additions.

Steven Endersby, WeGotTickets' Oxjam Project Manager, commented “We’re delighted with the success this year. Oxjam is an event we’ve been involved with over the last three years and we again worked with the team behind it during the early planning stages. We’re delighted to see that the work put in throughout the year by so many people right across the UK has led to such a successful Oxjam and it’s great that so much is being raised by our customers. Here’s to Oxjam 2011!”

Stuart Fowkes of Oxfam saidThe service provided by WeGotTickets has made it really easy for hundreds of brand new Oxjam promoters – some of whom have never put on a gig before – to sell tickets. At the same time, with their booking fee donations and the voluntary donation mechanism, they’re helping us to raise even more to fight poverty with every ticket sold.”

The donation module used on WeGotTickets is available to any promoter who would like a charity to benefit from any of the events they have on sale via the website. This option only adds to an established tradition of the company pioneering new developments - such as paperless tickets and easy ticket reallocation - within the ticketing industry, true to their ethical and independent company values.

About WeGotTickets

WeGotTickets is the leading ticketing agency in the UK for small to medium sized venues and promoters and currently works with over 3000 such organisations.

WeGotTickets has made it possible for promoters of all manner of events to benefit from advance ticket sales and now sells more than 500,000 tickets a year for a wide range of events; from art events and underground restaurants, to traditional live music shows. Indeed to cater for the growing demand for comedy tickets the company recently launched WeGotComedy.com, the UK’s only dedicated online ticket portal for comedy events.

Since its launch WeGotTickets has consistently pushed for innovation, transparency and best practice across the ticketing industry, with many of the company’s ideas becoming standard industry practice.

The company’s 10% maximum ticket commission rate has helped to lower fees across the business, whilst its pioneering paperless ticketing system has been a major factor in reducing the live music industry’s carbon footprint. The company has also been involved in numerous initiatives to help develop the grassroots live music industry and in 2009 launched an online forum where the company’s clients can network and share resources and knowledge in private.

Over the years WeGotTickets has been proud to work on a number of special campaigns with charities such as Oxjam, Childline and Warchild, and regularly donates a percentage of their booking fees back to these groups. In 2009 the company launched a unique feature allowing ticket buyers to quickly and easily make a donation to a featured charity whilst purchasing tickets.

Started in Oxford in the early noughties, the company was set up as a result of the founders being unable to sell advance tickets for one of their concerts at a venue that lacked a box office. Originally selling through their music merchandise website www.OxfordMusic.net, the WeGotTickets online box office was fully launched in 2002, selling tickets for The Zodiac (now O2 Academy) in Oxford and other venues.
