28th October 2010, London:- Heaven 17 are to release Penthouse and Pavement Live in Concert on DVD on 22nd November 2010, nearly 30 years on from the album's original release. Recorded live in front of 2,000 hometown fans at the Sheffield Arena in March 2010, the DVD includes the concert in its entirety, never before seen on screen. In addition, the documentary Heaven 17: The Story of Penthouse and Pavement, with exclusive new rehearsal footage, an intimate session at Glenn's own studio and behind-the-scenes footage from Abbey Road studios. Released at the dawn of the 1980s, Heaven 17's debut album Penthouse and Pavement has become one of the defining albums of that decade, ushering in a new age of electro-pop that still resonates throughout the charts today.Cited by the likes of La Roux as an inspiration and influence on the band, singer Elly Jackson says of the band: "Instant respect... they sounded really fresh and exciting - loads of attitude and I loved it. Loads of DJs still ramming home songs like 'Play To Win', playing them out at big nights and they still go down. The debut just still sounds great - the textures and tones of it and the rhythms of it."The veteran British synthpop group - featuring original founding members Martyn Ware (previously in The Human League) on keyboards, synthesisers and vocals, and lead vocalist Glenn Gregory - picked up where Kraftwerk left off, creating glistening electro-pop that didn't skimp on danceable grooves or memorable melodies. In March 2010, nearly thirty years on from its release, the band staged a one-off hometown show at the Sheffield Magna Arena, playing the album in its entirety in front of 2000 fans. Filmed by Strong Pictures, fans worldwide will now be able to enjoy the concert with this special edition 2-Disc DVD release. The band commented: "We are so excited about the DVD release of our homecoming show, it was definitely one the most treasured moments of our career to date. The additional documentary really gives an insight to the band and captures the live digital visual show beautifully."Featuring 19 classic tracks, including 'Temptation', '(We Don't Need This) Fascist Groove Thang' and a cover version of the Human League's 'Being Boiled', the DVD captures one of the most influential bands of their generation, as relevant and exciting today as they were when they first formed.Included in the special edition package is a bonus DVD featuring the documentary Heaven 17: The Story of Penthouse and Pavement, plus never before seen footage including rehearsals. An official entry of the Sheffield Doc/Fest 2010 and originally aired on BBC2 earlier this year, The Guardian said the documentary "should have had a health warning on it, it was so absorbing. An elegiac tribute to the lost industry of Sheffield, as well as to the energy and creativity of ordinary boys who wanted their voices to be heard, it captured the period in its tragedies and triumphs, perfectly." Also included is a unique collection of the digital videos used in the live show. Each video was commissioned by a different visual artist and includes some of the biggest and most talented up-and-coming artists from the worlds of digital and graphic design, fine art and film, including award-winning The Sancho Plan and Malcolm Garrett who has also designed for Simple Minds, Duran Duran and Peter Gabriel. The DVD is released just as the band hit the road for the 'Penthouse & Pavement 30th Anniversary Tour' and EMI re-issue the album in a special anniversary edition, cementing the album's position in musical history. The DVD will be available at every date of the forthcoming UK tour this November and December and from www.heaven17.com where fans can also receive a free download of exclusive behind the scenes photos taken by the band.
