After a week that saw David Lynch’s shock release on Sunday Best become NME Track of the Week, hit #3 on the Cool Cuts chart and notch up 100k streams and YouTube views respectively, Good Today Today/I Know remixes are set to take the club world by storm.Among the electronic notables reworking Lynch’s tracks are electronic innovators Underworld, Simon from Basement Jaxx (with Ratcliffe hedz in dark mix); DJ legend Sasha; Dubstep trailblazer Skream; Berlin artist Boys Noize; the sublime Coldplay producer Jon Hopkins; blogger’s favorite Diskjokke; Sunday Best’s own Rob da Bank and dan le sac.Taking a unique approach to remixing, Underworld’s Karl Hyde took the bold move of completely replacing Lynch’s original vocal with his own, creating a track with an appealingly hypnotic pulse - a sound undeniably Underworld. The band’s addition to the list is particularly fitting due to their knotted history; the original of Lynch’s Good Day Today was mistakenly credited to the pioneering duo after a mystery airing on LA’s leading KCRW music station – causing a debate over the artist’s identity to rage on the Underworld message boards.Adding to the digital swell, an electrifying interview is due to take place on Twitter at 20:00 GMT on the 8th December (12:00 LA time) between Lynch, remixers of his tracks and fans. Moderated by Guardian Music, the interview can be followed live on ‘#lynchqa’ and all questions should be tweeted to Guardian Music (@guardianmusic), the best of which will be passed on to the man himself for considered response. Finally, Lynch has thrown down the gauntlet to young film makers to create the official music videos for the single. Entrants are invited to create short films to accompany the tracks, with Lynch himself detailing the project brief in an exceptional personal video message at www.Genero.tv, The legendary visual artist will personally judge the best entries, and announce the winners on 3rd January. The remixes are being promo'd to key tastemakers from 6th December, with a full club mailout after Christmas. They will be released in three panel gatefold vinyl, deluxe CD and digital editions on 31st January (full details below) and will be available for pre-order from www.davidlynch.com.The original double A side, Good Day Today, with vocals by Lynch himself, has landed a coveted #3 spot on the latest Cool Cuts chart (decided by club DJ and radio and retail tastemakers). Having signed global rights to the tracks, leading UK independent Sunday Best see this placing as only the beginning of what many predict to be a monumental rise, with remixes dominating the club charts. In the short week since its release the track has also pricked the ears of many a top radio personality leading to plays from Zane Lowe and Pete Tong at Radio 1, Huey Morgan at 6 Music, Radio 2 Arts Show and airings at Xfm from both John Kennedy and Eddy Temple Morris. A 6 Music David Lynch special is also set for January, tying with the remix packages.Says Sunday Best founder Rob da Bank “This has been such a hush hush project from the off it was tricky to ask people to remix without word getting around. Word did get around and we were bombarded with producers and DJs asking to mix the icon. Fortunately we'd already asked the cream of the crop who all agreed and I love the variety of what we've ended up with. From some very reverent leftfield mixes to straight up bangers, and even a classic reinterpretation from Underworld with Karl's unmistakable vocal”Underworld‘s Karl Hyde states: "Everything about David Lynch's work is his own: the look, the sound, the narrative flow... He is truly unique, we were so excited to get the chance to add a small bit of Underworld to his world. For Rick Smith and I, the way he could move between 'art house' and massive commercial success was inspirational to us as artists. We were also really happy to remix it because over the years we've soundtracked so many of his films - in our imagination!!!!"This string of artists paying homage to the Lynch’s solo debut is nothing if not a show of love and respect from electronic music’s visionaries to one of the most renowned avant-garde film directors of our time. While making Blue Velvet, he needed a certain type of song for an important scene so Lynch and his film composer Angelo Badalamenti wrote the song ‘Mysteries of Love’ to be sung by Julee Cruise. This led to the album ‘Floating Into The Night’, whose track ‘Falling’ was the theme music for Twin Peaks, and won a Grammy for best pop instrumental. In 2008, having composed small sections for his other films and his musical ambitions growing, he became the eponymous creator of a record label David Lynch MC.Sunday Best Recordings: Founded in 1995 by BBC Radio One DJ Rob da Bank, Sunday Best Recordings was spawned from the popular south London clubbing institution of the same name.
