Happy Mondays Celebrate 25 years of ‘Bummed’ at The Forum Herts

  • Wednesday 4th December, The Forum Hertfordshire
  • Playing sophomore album ‘Bummed’ in its entirety

The Forum Hertfordshire will be getting their fill of ‘Madchester’ on Wednesday 4th December as the Happy Mondays play their critically acclaimed album ‘Bummed’ in it’s entirety.25 years on from its release in November 1988, Happy Mondays’ sophomore album ‘Bummed’ still sounds extraordinary and unique. Now we have a chance to hear this seminal and astonishing album played out in full; from the two stepping ‘Country Song’ to a meeting with ‘Mad Cyril’ and a heady dose of ‘Lazyitis’ along the way.Marrying dense funkadelic grooves with biting post-punk guitars and disorientating, eddying keyboards it makes for a vivid, unsettling, and elaborate whole. We hear slide guitar mixing with looped drum-machines, alongside sound clips from the film ‘Performance’ and half-inched Beatles melodies; all unified by Sean Ryder’s singular incantations of luck, lazyitis and fat lady wrestlers. The importance of this record can’t be overstated; ‘Bummed’ propelled the Happy Mondays into the wider public eye, found them dominating Top Of The Pops and playing stadiums. ‘Bummed’ is the crucial connector between indie and acid house of course, between rock and rave – just listen to the Vince Clarke remix of ‘Wrote For Luck’ (WFL) – this is something daring and unheard of which changed the clubbing landscape of the country forever. This performance is guaranteed to be unprecedented and phenomenal, make sure not to miss it at The Forum this December.Listings information:Who’s Playing: Happy MondaysDate: Wednesday 4th DecemberTime: 19:00 – 22:30Place: The Forum HertfordshireUniversity of HertfordshireCollege LaneHatfieldAL10 9ABPrice: £28Tickets: http://goo.gl/rXp7BLAbout The Forum HertfordshireThe Forum Hertfordshire opened its doors in 2009, a custom build from scratch.
