Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Club celebrates 60th anniversary with Ealing Jazz Festival

25 April 2019, London: The epicentre of jazz in the UK, Ronnie Scott’s has proven to be an irreplaceable purveyor of quality music. Now, to help celebrate its 60th birthday in 2019, the iconic club is partnering with Ealing Jazz Festival to showcase the very best of jazz alongside the festival’s stellar line-up of local and international acts.Taking place on the weekend of the 27th – 28th July, Ealing Jazz Festival will play host to some of the most exciting jazz acts around. Ronnie Scott’s programme for Sunday’s main stage will feature one of James Brown’s most prominent co-writers and one of the original JB Horns Pee Wee Ellis, who will be performing his soul-drenched sounds honed during his 50-year career working alongside musical greats including Sonny Rollins, Van Morrison, and Cream’s Ginger Baker.Meanwhile, club regulars Andy Davies Quartet will be playing the summer festival. With two albums under his belt as well as tours in Japan, Turkey, Italy, and Spain with his ensemble, Andy Davies will prove why he is one of the UK’s leading jazz stars. The line-up also features rising jazz star virtuoso vocalist, Judi Jackson, who has taken the industry by storm with multiple award nominations, festival headlines slots and the release of her incredible live album Live in London.To ensure there’s not a dull moment, two of the club residents will also be in attendance: the wildly entertaining Ronnie Scott’s Big Band, renowned for their raucous renditions of brass heroes like Count Basie and Duke Ellington, and W3, the hugely popular funk and soul ensemble whose members have toured with megastars such as Jessie J, Rita Ora, Jess Glynne, and Wretch 32.Alex Losardo, External Events Manager at Ronnie Scott’s, said of the partnership, “We are extremely excited to be working with Ealing Jazz Festival as part of our 60th anniversary celebrations. With the many more to be announced, including headliners, the festival will welcome BYOB (Bring Your Own Brass), who will show off their heady mix of dance floor grooves and hip-hop beats, and Leeds based jazz fusion collective Necktr, whose icy cool vocals and intricate rhythms will no doubt be a festival highlight. Don Kipper are also on the bill, bringing their eclectic, energetic mix of world sounds to Walpole Park, ranging from modern Romani music to relentless West African rhythms.Ealing Jazz Festival is one of 2019’s Ealing Summer Festivals, a series of six separate events taking place in the borough throughout July.
