6 June 2019, London: Already one of the most hotly anticipated events in the UK jazz calendar, Ealing Jazz Festival has today announced its full line up for 2019, featuring the legendary Cymande alongside rising icons Ruby Rushton and Theon Cross.A true embodiment of Windrush-era Britain, Cymande reached cult status in the early 1970s with their exhilarating mix of reggae, funk and jazz. Following a premature exit from music in 1974, the group has become one of the most sampled black British bands ever, influencing hip-hop and house producers globally. Since their widely acclaimed return in 2013, the group have toured the world, releasing four new albums in the meantime, and are now ready to bring their infectious rhythms to Walpole Park.King of the djembe, Weedie Braimah will be performing his unique West African folk inspired fusion. Using instruments from across the diaspora, the percussive prowess of Weedie and The Hands of Time ensemble will be a truly inspiring sight to behold. Likewise, Theon Cross, tuba player for jazz powerhouse Sons of Kemet, will bring his heady, floor stomping mix of afrobeat inspired jazz to the summer festival.Ruby Rushton, led by prolific flautist Tenderlonius, are certainly not be missed, known for mesmerising crowds with their high-powered performances which have pushed them to the front of the contemporary jazz scene. They’ll be alongside other recently announced acts such as James Brown co-writer and collaborator Pee Wee Ellis who is performing as part of Sunday’s specially curated line-up by Ronnie Scott’s to celebrate the iconic club’s 60th birthday. The frenetic energy and marvel of Beat Replacement will make sure the emerging jazz vanguard are well represented. Celebrated pianist Sarah Tandy, dubbed as ‘one of the brightest prospects on the London jazz scene’ by the Guardian, and classic soul act Lee Gold Collective round off a packed line-up, ensuring this will be one of the best years in the festival’s long history.Ealing Jazz Festival 201927th–28th JulyWalpole Park, London, W5 5HS12:00pm–10:30pmTickets available here:https://www.ticketline.co.uk/ealing-jazz-festival#tour£5.50 for a single day ticket, £11.00 for a weekend ticketChildren go freeEaling Summer FestivalsWebsite: https://www.ealingsummerfestivals.comTwitter: @Ealing_SummerFacebook: /EalingSummerFull line-up:CymandeWeedie Braimah & The Hands of TimeTheon CrossRuby RushtonSarah TandyNecktrBYOBBeat ReplacementPhillip FlutewizAlice AuerHilda CeciliaLee Gold CollectiveBlues NotesDon KipperRonnie Scott’s 60th Birthday:Pee Wee EllisAndy Davies QuartetJudi JacksonRonnie Scott’s Big BandW3For press enquiries please contact jasper@namepr.co.uk
