fmm_logo_for_webFaculty Music and Media, the record label set up by the University of Westminster, today announced details of the first single, ‘Oh My Love’, from the new and as yet untitled album by acclaimed French duo John & Jehn. The single, released on the 20th April, has already received airplay on Xfm and BBC 6Music and been chosen as an upcoming ‘Hottest Download’ in The Sunday Times in April. To coincide with the release John & Jehn will be in the UK on the 21st April to perform an in-store session at Rough Trade East in London.Meanwhile in Europe they continue to promote debut album ‘John & Jehn’ and were recently invited to perform single “20 L 07” on Taratata, which with 6 million viewers is the most watched music TV show in France (scheduled for broadcast on France 4 on 10th April).Faculty have also licensed non album track “Make Your Mum Be Proud” to Chanel for their Spring Collection DVD, sent out to their haute couture clients, and for use across the fashion house’s websites. This follows a series of sold out European shows, widespread coverage in the French music and style press, being chosen as the ‘Sensation band’ at Transmusicale and Eurosonic and the debut album, distributed by Discograph in France and Believe across Europe, breaking into the French Top 40.The release of ‘Oh My Love’ marks the continuing, and unprecedented for University based labels, success of Faculty. Set up in 2007 to provide the University and its commercial music students a genuine workplace environment within which to gain direct, high level, hands-on work experience, both within Faculty and many of the label’s music industry partners, such as Get Involved, Nile-On and Anorak. The experience gained from their work with Faculty not only goes towards their final grade but is invaluable in providing real experience for those wishing to find work in the music industry after their degree. Students who have worked at Faculty have gone onto work at companies such as Ministry of Sound, Warner Chappell, Visible Noise, Clintons and The Roundhouse.Said Katie Thiebauld, MD of Faculty Music, “Faculty Music Media supports the shift towards more independence within the music industry. That combined with its unique relationship to the University and a dedicated team of professionals and students with the focus on a very prolific band (John and Jehn) makes a great dynamic.”Said Sally Gross, Gro$$ Management, John and Jehn’s manager “Faculty is a unique set up and John & Jehn are a unique band and that is the magic of the music industry, sometimes everything fits and with a lot of hard work it pays off.”www.facultymusic.com
